Vienna Teng

I was in the studio for 3 days this week with Michigan-based and Rounder Records artist Vienna Teng, working on some ridiculously excellent songs. I got to work with frequent co-conspirators producer Cason Cooley, drummer Will Sayles and bass player Tony Lucido. The team was killer. Almost every song has crazy time signatures. Will got to be a one man drum line for one of the tunes. Lots of fun.
We worked at Sound Emporium A for this session, and made extensive use of both of the studio’s echo chambers as well as their stereo EMT plate. The MVP piece of gear on this session though was the wonderful AMS RMX16 reverb. Lots of that guy on this project. Nothing like it.
I’m REALLY excited about the way this record sounds. For a couple behind the scenes videos, check out Vienna’s facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ViennaTeng
Ellie Holcomb

I’m currently in the studio with fantastically talented singer-songwriter Ellie Holcomb (also of Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors). We’re tracking some beautiful songs that can’t help but remind me of classic Fleetwood Mac. This one is being expertly led by Ben Shive and the legendary Brown Bannister. With my main man Will Sayles on drums and the 9-fingered wonder Matt Pierson on bass, we can’t go wrong. I love my job.
Niko Moon

I spent all last week working with a phenomenal singer named Niko Moon. Produced by Jamie Kenney. We camped out for a few days in the Neve room over at Quad and made some killer music, then took things to Jamie’s Lewis Park studio to finish up. The nights were late. Much coffee and some (of my) homemade beer was consumed. Positive vibes were abundant. I can’t wait for people to hear what we got up to. Look for this one to come out sometime next fall on Zac Brown’s Southern Ground record label.
Josh Panda

I tracked a few tunes recently for Vermont singer/songwriter Josh Panda over at Joe Pisapia’s Middletree Studio. This dude can sing, and writes classic songs. A great room and great players…plus his last name is Panda, how can you go wrong?
It was a big crew with Ian Fitchuk on Drums, Chris Donahue on Bass, Lex Price on Acoustics, Joe Pisapia on Guitar, Josh Grange on Pedal Steel, Jamie Kenney producing and playing Piano and of course Josh Panda on Vocals. Hope this stuff finds its way to your ears soon.
